Episiotomy Quiz

Welcome to our online educational tool on episiotomy!

Our online tool consists of a quiz and a “choose-your-own adventure” (CYOA) style story. Although we would love for you to complete both sections of the module, you can choose to complete the quiz ONLY or complete the CYOA portion at a later time. The quiz should not take more than 15-20 minutes to complete!

The quiz consists of 14 questions with either multiple-choice or true and false answers that you will answer using your current knowledge base. Each question will be followed by a detailed clarification using relevant studies in the literature to discuss each issue. We will highlight the controversies and incorporate information regarding care practitioner knowledge and attitudes. A few questions at the end will focus on testing your understanding of the information presented in the first part of the quiz.
The second part consists of different scenarios in which you will choose between various decision trees as would be found in a "Choose-your-own-adventure" story. The scenarios will represent realistic experiences that you are likely to encounter during childbirth and will reflect the importance of you being able to engage in informed discussions with your care provider.

At the end we will ask you to evaluate the format of the educational tool and provide feedback regarding the usefulness of the information provided. Your feedback is very important to us!

The entire quiz & CYOA will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Benefits of this Study:
You will be gaining evidence-based knowledge regarding the use of episiotomy. This knowledge will hopefully give you the ability to have an informed discussion with your health care provider on the issue of episiotomy.

Risks or discomforts:
No risks or discomforts are anticipated from taking part in this study. Do keep in mind that the information we will provide in our module is based on population research & based on specific populations. Your individual circumstances may not necessarily reflect those of the populations in these research studies.
You may also gain knowledge that your maternity care provider may not be aware of. This could potentially cause some conflict between you and your care provider. Studies have shown, however, that women search for information regarding childbirth on various online sources. We, therefore, do not anticipate any more conflict that would normally be expected.

Consent:
Your participation is completely voluntary. By completing the quiz you are giving consent for the information you provide to be used in our research project. You are free to withdraw from this study at any point during the quiz. If you do not click on the "submit" button at the end of the survey, your answers and participation will not be recorded. You may also choose to skip any questions that you do not feel comfortable answering.

Confidentiality:
Other than basic demographics (such as your age group, pregnant or not, how many children you have and who your care provider will be (ie. Midwife, Family physician, Obstetrician) no identifying personal information will be collected. Your answers, therefore, are totally anonymous.

How your information will be used:
Our study is based on creating an effective online educational tool. Your feedback that you do provide will contribute to our study and will be submitted in our final research paper for the UBC Family Medicine program and will be presented at the UBC Research Day in June 2013.
